New app will help residents and visitors 'dscvr' Tameside

Tameside Council has partnered with a new app called 'dscvr' (pronounced 'discover') which showcases all that the borough has to offer.

The dscvr app, which is available in many locations across the UK, now features Tameside towns.

Residents and visitors can download the free app and see what Tameside has to offer. Split into three main sections, Shop, Eat and Do, businesses and organisations are showcased along with offers and events, increasing footfall and promotional reach.

The dscvr app is the only whole place app currently available and includes green spaces, places of interest, events, historic information, national and independent businesses, food and drink and other entertainment. There is also potential to connect shoppers to loyalty schemes at local stores.

The key features for businesses include:

  • Brandable business profiles
  • The ability to promote offers and events attached to the business profile
  • A dedicated team to help add and edit businesses and offers/events

The key features for users include:

  • A personalisable feed relevant to the user’s likes and interests
  • Showing new places to shop, eat and explore in the local area
  • Maps and walking distance to places based on current location

The dscvr app is currently available from app stores, and users can browse all dscvr locations from anywhere.

The app has been commissioned through the national Welcome Back Funding, which will be used to help promote Tameside’s attractions. The Welcome Back Fund is designed to encourage people back into town centres following the pandemic and the dscvr app will support this while also promoting key points of interest and events across the borough.

Cllr Oliver Ryan, Tameside Council executive member for Finance and Economic Growth, and Cllr George Newton, Tameside Council executive member for Information Technology, said: “This is a fantastic collaboration and one we’re very excited about. The dscvr app will provide residents and visitors with a new, easy way to find out what’s available in our towns from businesses and local organisations alike. Through our work with dscvr and their extensive mapping we’re confident we’ll be able to showcase far and wide what Tameside has to offer.”

Anyone interested can download the app by clicking here or searching ‘dscvr’ in app stores. Local businesses interested in being featured in the app should email tameside@dscvr-app.com to contact the dscvr team.
