Murder probe launched after man found dead in Mossley

A murder investigation has been launched after a man was found dead at his home in Mossley.

At 10.30am on Sunday morning (3 July), police were called to a report of concern for the welfare of a man at an address on Riverside.

The body of a man, believed to be in his late 30s, was discovered when officers attended.

Greater Manchester Police say they now know to be suspicious circumstances surrounding the man's death and believe it may have been a targeted attack.

On Monday, an increased police presence remains at the scene, where floral tributes have also been left.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Superintendent Jamie Daniels, said: “Following the initial stages of our investigation, we now know that there are suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of this man and believe this may have been a targeted attack.

"While this enquiry is very much in its infancy and we are keeping an open mind, we would appeal to anyone with any information whatsoever to come forward and speak to the police. This man was someone’s son, someone’s partner, someone’s brother, someone’s father and we are determined to do all we can to find out who is responsible and bring them to justice.

“There will be an increase in officers in the local area while our investigation progresses through the evening and tomorrow.

“I would ask anyone with any information at all about this incident to please contact police as soon as possible.”

Information can be submitted by calling 0161 856 6377 or via the LiveChat service at www.gmp.police.uk quoting incident number 1207 of 3 July 2022. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

MP Jonathan Reynolds, who represents Mossley, said: "My heart goes out to the loved ones of this constituent. I’m grateful to the police who attended the scene, continue to maintain a presence in the area and are keeping us informed as appropriate. A terribly sad occurrence in one of our nicest places to live. Thinking of the whole Mossley community."
