Mossley volunteers praised for hard work

Busy volunteers in Mossley have been praised for their hard work in a special ceremony.

More than 60 volunteers were commended at Mossley Community Centre in a night filled with entertainment, a quiz, music and a presentation, which was funded by Action Together Tameside.

Tameside Council leader Cllr Brenda Warrington attended the event at the centre on Roughtown Road and presented certificates to the volunteers.

Chris Frost, from the centre, said: “Mossley Community Centre was able to acknowledge the fantastic work done by over 60 volunteers during the last 18 months.

“Certificates of thanks were presented to everyone by Cllr Brenda Warrington. It was a wonderful evening.”

The community centre also recently received a cheque from Mossley Coop for £209 towards the Well Women’s Group at the centre.

The group provides advice and support to new mums. Sessions are free and are held every Tuesday between 9.30-11am and Fridays 1-2.30pm.

Meanwhile, the busy centre held two wreath-making workshops at the weekend, which were very well attended.

A lot of people who visited had never made a wreath before.

This Saturday, the centre is holding two Breakfast with Santa sessions. Both of these are sold out.

l Mossley Community Centre is aiming to upgrade the main kitchen and staff want to identify what additional activities it would enable them to offer the community, and what affordable food-related activities people would be interested in.

The centre is gathering information for a funding application it is putting together.
