Local woman improves work-life balance thanks to Tameside in Work

A local woman is celebrating securing a new job thanks to employment support service Tameside in Work.

Janet, from Tameside, had worked in adult social care for twenty-eight years but was ready for a change to fit in with her lifestyle.

With the help of Tameside in Work, a Tameside Council funded employment support service, Janet was able to gain specialist support and advice to find a new role.

“I felt stuck in a rut”, said Janet. “I had been in my previous role for 28 years and while I loved what I was doing, I needed a change from a physically strenuous job and I was ready to try something new.

“I had tried looking for jobs, I didn’t really know where to begin with the application part, and I wasn’t sure what skills I actually had.”

Janet saw an advert for Tameside in Work on Facebook, and contacted the team to ask for help in finding a new role.

“I saw the service advertised and thought, that sounds right up my street! I sent them an email and within a day, the team got in touch with me to set up a one-to-one meeting that week where I had complete control of where I wanted to go and what I wanted to get out of the session.

“The team were just fantastic – especially Natalie. Their communication was excellent, as well as their knowledge of the role and industry.”

Janet was supported to identify and understand her skillset, and learn which employers were looking for these types of skills. Janet described to the team the sort of role and lifestyle she wanted to attain, and the employment support officers were able to offer bespoke advice in line with industry insights to find suitable roles.

“Natalie and the team were just fantastic, with excellent communication and knowledge of the roles,” said Janet.

“They made me realise I had skills I wasn’t even aware of, and bringing those skills out and gave me confidence to see my own abilities.

“My applications and interview confidence transformed, to the point where I got numerous invites to interviews.”

Janet secured a role in the adult social care sector for Tameside Council as a Team Clerk.

“I’m still in the industry I’m passionate about, but now I’m in a role that fits in well with my work/life balance that isn’t physically strenuous.

“I still feel like I am making a difference to people’s lives, and I’ve also improved my own lifestyle in the process. I couldn’t recommend Tameside in Work more”.

Councillor Dave Sweeton, Tameside Council Executive Member for Inclusive Growth, Business and Employment, said: “Tameside in Work is a fantastic opportunity for our local residents who are looking to boost their earnings or improve their work-life balance. It’s great to hear of the difference that this service is making to people’s lives and I encourage anyone who is looking to upskill or have a change in their employment to get in touch.

“Looking for a new role can be daunting, but our Employment and Skills Team are here to support you ever step of the way and help you to build your confidence to find the right job for you”.
