Lilywhites prove too strong for Ashton

Pre-Season Friendly Mossley 3-2 Ashton United

Two late goals for the visitors gave the scoreline something of a flattering look at a weather-beaten Seel Park. The game got off to a sensational start with the rain arriving right on cue as Adam Morgan picked up a loose ball and fired it fully 40 yards from the centre circle into Carnell’s net with just two minutes gone.

Six minutes later Kyle Harrison caught Brooke in the area and Morgan easily converted his second from the spot. A pullback from a corner then saw Liam Tomsett clear the stand and Morgan was just denied a potential hat-trick as his chip beat Richardson at the far post after his first effort had been blocked. Tames then brought a decent save out of Forth from Harrison’s cross and Mossley finished the half back on the attack as a raking pass from Keogh drew a weak effort from Morgan.

Aaron Smith just failed to convert Sam Sheridan’s deep free kick on the restart and Chris Rowney had a good low effort saved after collecting a return pass. With 20 minutes left Lenighan made a great run through midfield and tee’d up Halfacre who walked the ball into the net. Time was running out as Tames pulled a goal back finishing Wilson’s cross close in and with 2 minutes remaining a long ball rebounded to sub-Hawley who tucked it away and with the last kick of the game Anghel’s corner saw Chalmers’ header come back off the crossbar.

Team: Carnell, Harrison, Rowney, Havern, Hunt, Sheridan, Smith, Wilson, Tames, Crowther, Tomsett. Subs: Chalmers, Anghel, Hawley, Hughes, Cotton & a trialist.
