Dead body found on railway lines at Ashton station

A dead body was found on the railway line in Ashton-under-Lyne on Sunday night.

 Police were called to reports of a casualty on the tracks at the station at around 9.59pm.

The person, whose sex and age has not been confirmed by the British Transport Police (BTP), was pronounced dead.

Train services were halted s emergency services dealt with the incident.

British Transport Police have since confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious and that a file will now be prepared for the coroner.

A spokesman said: "Officers were called to Ashton-under-Lyne railway station following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
