In memory of Mark

A Justgiving page has been created to continue the legacy of much-loved Hyde United official Mark Worthington.

Mark tragically died from a heart attack on April 23. He was 52.

Now his family are hoping to honour his memory and continue his fine community work by establishing the Mark Worthington Foundation.

The Foundation will consist of a number of projects to help the lives of young people with fewer opportunities, through sport and social enterprise. Such has been the reaction to the idea, £4,380 has been raised towards a target of £10,000 in a matter of days.

A statement on behalf of Mark’s family, friends and colleagues read: “Thank you so much to everyone who has donated. Please do spread the word. The money will be used for projects that help children and vulnerable young people in areas of high deprivation or strategic need across the UK. All donors will be kept up to date with the development of the foundation and its projects and how the money is being spent. Thank you.”

Messages have poured in from all around the world in the wake of Mark’s death. Hyde’s Academy players paid their respects by laying a wreath before a fixture, while the wider football community held a minute’s silence and submitted their own tributes online.
