Hansel and Gretel comes to Hurst

The panto season is in full flow with no shortage of choice across the region.

The curtains also went up at Hurst Community Centre in Ashton this week for a panto - but with a difference.

For the Centre Players are taking to the stage with their rendition of Hansel and Gretel; A Postmodern Pantomime.

In the show The Director believes he has staged the most avant-garde pantomime ever written, with his wonderous re-telling of the classic dark fairy tale Hansel and Gretel, but the cast want something more traditional and the Director gets much more than he bargained for.

With a Dame-for-hire, and Cinderella trying to hijack the whole show, will Hansel and Gretel ever reach that famous gingerbread cottage?

Mike Lawlor steps into the role of The Dame and says: “We are so excited to be back on the stage and have you all back in the audience!

“Come down to Hurst Cross Community Centre and join Hansel and Gretel, Widow Hazel, Nefaria Von Evil, her dragon and Cinderella.

“Hansel and Gretel; A Postmodern Pantomime is an original retelling of a classic story with a twist, and definitely a show you won’t want to miss.”

Mike added: “After a long year and-a-half of worrying “it’s behind you,” we hope everyone will be encouraged to leave the house to venture out into the returning pantomime season, with Centre Player’s rendition of Hansel and Gretel; A Postmodern Pantomime.”

The show runs until Saturday (although the evening show and matinee are all but sold out), but tickets are still available for tonight (Wednesday), Thursday and Friday.

The panto promises plenty of fun for all the family. For ticket availability go online to www.ticketsource.co.uk/hurstcommunitycentre or call 0333 666 3366.
