GHOST The Musical comes to Mossley this month

Join award-winning Mossley AODS (Amateur Operatic & Dramatic Society) as they bring the story of GHOST The Musical to The George Lawton Hall from Tuesday 23 to Saturday 27 April.

Based on the classic romance starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore, MAODS guide us through a heart-breaking story of love, desperation, grief and betrayal that debuted it’s stage production at Manchester Opera House in 2012.

Molly, played beautifully by Katherine Farrow, and her boyfriend Sam (John Dean) are moving into their new apartment in New York City… their friend Carl (Samuel Maurice) offers help as they begin their new lives together. With Sam and Molly spending more time together, Carl offers to help Sam out at work when he realises there is too much money in one of the accounts. Carl can’t resist and sets a mugger onto Sam to steal his wallet for the access codes. During this dispute, Sam is shot and trapped in between Heaven and Hell becoming a ghost stuck on Earth watching the aftermath of his death.

In spirit, Sam finds Oda Mae (Ochi Odey) a medium psychic from Spanish Harlem, and persuades her to contact Molly on his behalf. This character, originally played by Whoopi Goldberg in the 1990 movie, brings the humour to the dark and twisted plot and delivers high energy numbers.

The MAODS team said: "It has been wonderful to have Ochi join the team at MAODS and we can’t wait for our audiences to see her alongside the rest of the cast bring their characters to life!"

Ochi said: “I am incredibly pleased to be a part of the Mossley family and to be getting involved in this amazing show! Oda Mae is such a fun and exciting character to play in her own wacky, crazy way! I have thoroughly enjoyed working alongside this insanely talented cast and crew who are all working tirelessly to put this amazing show together!”

Likewise, the committee at Mossley are over the moon with the whole team working on this production, and can’t wait to see it all piece together at The George Lawton Hall.

In recent times, the community has seen their local amateur dramatics societies struggle in various ways, along with theatre closures including Oldham Coliseum.

George Devlin, MAODS Secretary, added: "It is heartbreaking to see the devastating impacts this is having on our area as well as our performers. Theatres are a place where people go to escape, imagine and be taken away into a different world for a short while, both on, behind and off stage for all ages.

"Did you see our fantastic sell-out production of  ‘School Of Rock’ last year? Come along and join us, and get lost in our story… featuring the classic songs, ‘Unchained Melody’, ‘With You’ and ‘I’m Outta Here’."

Tickets are available on the MAODS website - maods.org - or by phoning their Booking Secretary on 07717 594274.
