Pentecost in the Park: Stalybridge churches celebrate this Sunday

Five Stalybridge churches will be coming together this Sunday, May 19, to celebrate Pentecost, a Christian holiday which takes place on the 50th day after Easter Sunday.

Rev Emma, from St Paul's Church, said: "Coming out of Covid, and in response to it becoming increasingly difficult to host our Whit Walks in the traditional way, we trialled Pentecost in the Park as an alternative.

"This enabled us to keep alive the tradition of us meeting together as our various churches, in a public space, proclaiming the gospel to our town."

Last year, approximately 300 people joined in and the event was branded a "huge success".

The day will begin at 10:45am with attendees meeting in Armentieres Square for a procession of witness, opened with a prayer and a hymn.

Everyone will then head over to Cheetham Park, accompanied by Broadhurst Silver Band, for a service of celebration and a picnic in the park. From 12:45pm there will be games led by St John's and Holy Trinity.

Anyone is welcome to attend and people are being encouraged to bring a picnic and a fold-out chair or blanket to sit on.
