Get in touch with technology at Tameside festival

A week of activities and events focused on the educational and creative uses of technology will be taking place as part of the Tameside TechKnow Festival.

It will run from Monday 9 to Saturday 14 August. 

The festival has classes for all age ranges and skill levels. 

Organised by Tameside Council, the aim is to boost people’s technological know-how and support them in staying safe online. Those who haven’t used computers or tablets before are also encouraged to have a go.  

Coronavirus measures will remain in place, including hand sanitiser at building entrances and facemasks for staff. Social distancing also remains.

Events include:

Coding workshop for young people with Coder Dojo (Suitable for ages 7-17)

Monday 9 Aug 10am-12.30pm & Wednesday 11 Aug 2-4.30pm

Attendees can join the experts from Coder Dojo for an introduction to coding. Come along and have some fun while learning new skills and creating projects with code.

Global Grooves - Visual arts and technology workshop (For ages 5 – 16).

Saturday 14 Aug 10:30 - 11:30am & 1:30 – 2:30pm

Get stuck in to creating some visual arts and tech activities and learn about renewable energy in the process with local arts organisation Global Grooves.

Filmmaking workshop with the Rio Ferdinand Foundation (For ages 7 – 17)

Saturday 14 Aug 10:30 - 11:30am & 1:00 – 2:00pm

The Rio Ferdinand Foundation will be hosting free filmmaking workshops where attendees can learn the basics or improve your skills alongside industry professional artists.  Great for aspiring filmmakers, vloggers and YouTubers.

3D design and print workshop (For ages 7 – 16)

Saturday 14 Aug 11am 12pm

An introductory look at basic 3D object creation and 3D printing. Attendees can have a go at designing something and it will be 3D printed for collection.

Cllr Leanne Feeley, Tameside Council executive member for Lifelong Learning, said: “These TechKnow Festival sessions and workshops are a fantastic opportunity for young people to have a go at a whole load of digital skills. We’re really excited for the festival to start and are grateful for the support we’ve received from so many fantastic organisations.”
