Could you be a guiding light?

Girl guiding units in Ashton are appealing for extra help with their groups.

Like many other organisations, girl guiding has lost a lot of leaders due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Several units in Ashton have had to close, with another unit due to close (in Holden Clough) if more leaders cannot be found.

Now organisers are appealing for more volunteers to help keep their groups, which include Rainbows, Brownies and Guides, open.

Ashton Division Commissioner Lesley Holroyd said: "You will join more than 80,000 volunteers and supporters who make a real difference to girls and young women.

"When you volunteer for us, you become an inspiring role model for our young members.

"When you donate to us, you make an investment in the future of all girls. When you fundraise for us, you make what we do possible. Or you can get involved by adding your voice to our campaigns.

"No matter how much time you have to give, there's an opportunity for you.

"Find your place in our team of inspirational women, sharing their skills and passions with girls in a local unit - all while benefiting from the adventure and opportunities guiding has to offer."
