ELECTION: Tameside local election results expected by 3am

Verification in Tameside's local elections is underway with a results expected at 3am.

A total of 107 councils held elections in England, including all 10 in Greater Manchester alongside mayoral contests in Manchester and Salford and East Midlands.

Elections for crime commissioner have not taken place in Greater Manchester.

The results of the elections will be declared over several days. 

Around a third of councils - including Tameside and Oldham - are expected to declare in the early hours of Friday morning, with nearly two-thirds of authorities announcing their results later in the day.

The Greater Manchester and Salford mayoral election results are expected on Saturday evening.

Our reporter at the Tameside count, Daisy Dewsnap, said: "The verification process is taking place. The polling boxes have all arrived and the results are expected to start coming in during the early hours of the morning."
