Community litter pick in the Tame Valley

Residents are being invited to the next community litter pick being held by the Friends of the Tame Valley.

In conjunction with Denton South's Labour councillors, the next formal group activity is planned for Saturday 13 November.

It will concentrate on cleaning up the Upper Haughton and Whittles Meadows areas.

They will be meeting at the Mill Lane entrance in Haughton Green at 10.30am on the day.

Anyone is welcome to join.

Commenting on the upcoming community action day, Denton South Councillor Claire Reid said: “The Tame Valley really is the jewel in the crown of Denton South, and it really is fantastic to see so how the community is so willing to give up their time to keep it tidy.

"Myself, Jack and George really are looking forward to getting stuck in with the volunteers at the litter pick in the Mill Lane area on the 13th November.

"Our thanks goes to the Friends of the Tame Valley group for making this possible.”

Andrew Gwynne, MP for Denton and Reddish and Secretary of the Friends group, added: “I’m thrilled that we’re running this litter picking event in conjunction with Team Denton South Councillors and am looking forward to seeing what we can achieve on the day.

"I’m so proud of what Friends of the Tame Valley have managed to get done in such a short space of time. The local community has come together to look after the Valley, and it’s really inspiring.

"I’d encourage anyone who wants to help out to join us on the 13th of NovemberIt’s a fun and productive day out for all ages!”

The Friends of Tame Valley was established in February this year by determined residents, MP Andrew Gwynne and local councillors to help transform the section of the river valley between Shepley Road, Audenshaw and Mill Lane Haughton Green. The area encompasses the entirety of Jet Amber Fields and a part of the Peak Forest Canal too.

The group has over 150 members now, many of whom are actively working to clean and improve the valley.

They have also actively secured thousands of pounds in grant funding to aid their mission.
