College's £11m construction centre set to transform campus

A brand new £11 million construction development is taking shape at Tameside College.

The Construction Skills Centre at Tameside College is well underway and poised to transform the college’s Beaufort Road campus.

The centre aims to support the future demand for key trades such as: bricklayers, plumbers, electricians, painter and decorators and civil engineers. The building itself has been designed in consultation with employers.

A steel signing ceremony marked the latest stage of the college’s ambitious plans to redevelop its estate.

Under the ‘Vision Tameside’  banner, in partnership with Tameside Council, the college has invested in its campus to deliver courses and training at Clarendon Sixth Form College, Advanced Technologies Centre and Tameside One.

The Construction Skills Centre, which is being constructed by Willmott Dixon and is due to open later this year, will further enhance the education and training opportunities for people in Tameside and surrounding areas.

College principal Jackie Moores said: “I am delighted that the Construction Skills Centre build is well underway and the steel signing ceremony is a major step in the college’s plans for futureproofing our estate.

“This space will allow students and apprentices access to the best equipment, resources and learning environments, whilst boosting the college’s links with employers in the sector. The construction trades are always in demand and this is only going to grow in the future. We are excited to be a part of this growth and the benefits this will bring to the local area.”
