Call for "Friends of the Tame Valley' to come forward

Denton MP Andrew Gwynne is hoping to improve the woodland in his area by helping to found a “Friends of the Tame Valley”.

Along with local councillors, it’s hoped the group would help improve the general area of outdoor green space running between Shepley Wood in Audenshaw, Jet Amber Fields, the Upper Haughton and Whittles Meadlows and Mill Lane in Haughton Green.

Currently, the area only receives limited maintenance, which Gwynne says means that footpaths are badly worn, sign posts are missing and fences need fixing.

Currently, local residents and dog walkers litter pick part of Jet Amber Fields, but Gwynne says the wider area needs some care.

He said: “We want all of the valley to look cared for... to hold the various landowners to account for maintenance and to help fundraise and bid for grants for improvements.”

Anyone wanting to help in any capacity is asked to email GwynneA@parliament.uk for an invite to the groups inaugural AGM on Tuesday 16 February at 7pm.
