Brave Tameside youngsters step up for electric chair cause

Two children have taken on momentous challenges to raise funds for an electric wheelchair.

Layla, six, and Thomas, nine, both have health problems which makes walking difficult for them.

But they received the support of The Believe and Achieve Trust, a Tameside charity, to complete a recent walking challenge.

The children stepped out from CEO of the Trust Alison William’s house and went all the way to the Trust’s office in Ashton.

Alison said: “This is massive as Thomas can’t normally walk anywhere near the distance. Layla has cerebral palsy and peddled the bike that we bought her which she isn’t used to.”

Donations to the amazing two will help raise the funds needed to buy Layla, from Stalybridge, an electric wheelchair so she can take part in the Trust’s disability sports club and dance club.

Alison added: “Thank you to everyone who sponsored Thomas and Layla. They were amazing!

“Thanks so much to the Civic Mayor of Tameside who also walked with the children and then presented them with a medal. Like me, she was proud of them.”

As reported earlier this year, The Believe and Achieve Trust came to her aid to help provide her with the specially adapted bike so she could join her school’s cycle club.

The fundraising continues.

The Believe and Achieve Trust focuses on improving the physical and mental health of children and young people across the region who are facing challenges because of meningitis, disability, or their personal situation.
