Stars In The Making: Tameside Net Future Talent At Summer Camp

Tameside Netball Club has produced some amazing athletes in recent years - and the club has no plans to stop anytime soon.

As part of Active Tameside’s Fuel4Fun Programme, and in a bid to entertain youngsters over the summer holidays, Tameside’s coaches have been running fun and friendly sessions in a bid to identify future stars.

It’s hoped that attendees who have taken part in the sessions will join the club, rise through the ranks and eventually compete at senior level.

Tameside has a great record of producing stars, with England players Amy Carter and Hannah Williams just two products to emerge from the club’s pathway.

Under 16’s coach Nick Hill, who was introduced to Tameside through his daughter, believes the club has a solid foundation to develop even further - especially with the added benefit of holiday camps to bring through the next generation.

Speaking to Reporter Sport at the session, Nick said: “The holiday camp is supported by Active Tameside and the Fuel4Fun holiday camp. It’s aimed at getting the children active during the summer holidays, and those who receive free school meals qualify for a free place on the camp.

“Part of our aim is to attract new players, especially in the younger age groups, build the club up and take it forward.

“Every club is looking to attract new players, and our belief is aimed at attracting children who can train with the ‘tots’ group. It’s essential that we do that to ensure that the club will maintain its growth and give us a good future.”

With the new season just around the corner, Nick’s Under 16s are already training in a bid to hit the ground running.

He has high hopes for the campaign and big targets which he wants to hit. He added: “Our aim is to qualify for the national championships which will be held next year. We start out at couty level and regional level, so hopefully we’ll do well and deliver success.”
