Weekend Review: Derbyshire and Cheshire Cricket League

A sun-baked Saturday saw Woodley push on towards the title in Division 1, with Whaley Bridge looking set for Division 1 cricket next year.

Hazel Grove captured silverware, winning the Hawke Trophy with a win over Tintwistle.

Readers Division One

Woodley pushed onwards to the title with a 90 run win at Dinting and now have a 32 point lead over Dove Holes.  Down at the bottom Hazel Grove have a lot to make up if they are to avoid the drop, but the other place looks to be a battle between New Mills; Hayfield; Tintwistle and Old Glossop, who did themselves a big favour with a narrow win over the Millers.

•Broadbottom v Newton  (result not available)

•Dinting 140ao (Jamie Kay 4-38) Woodley 230-8 (Daniel Kay 56; Conor Cranwell 41)

Division Two

Whaley Bridge look set for promotion after a win over Buxworth.  The second promotion spot looks as though it will go to the wire with Pott Shrigley, (easy winners over Charlesworth) and Stalybridge, (who overcame bottom placed Dove Holes) separated by only six points.

Division Three

Newton stayed at the top after a six wicket win over Stalybridge but Woodley kept the pressure on them, beating Broadbottom comfortably by seven wickets. With Chapel doomed to the drop it now looks to be a battle between Stalybridge and Broadbottom to avoid joining them.

• Hayfield 61-2 Chapel 59ao

•Old Glossop 213-6 (Ethan Lumb 44; Anjum Mirza 98* Hazel Grove 133ao

Division Four

Tintwistle piled on the runs at home to Buxworth with Damian Weatherhead leading the way with a century.  He was backed up by Steve Morris, (81) and Sam Bird, (52*) as they topped the 300 mark.  It was too many for the visitors and the win kept Tintwistle at the top.  Hollingworth are in the second promotion spot after a 14-run win over Charlesworth
