A football club from Denton is celebrating 52 years’ service to the local community.
West End AFC, based on Granada Road, has been holding a celebratory event to mark the milestone. The celebration includes refreshments, football competitions, a tombola, fairground rides and much more.
The event was originally planned to take place two years ago, however the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns delayed the occasion until today.
Hundreds of players, coaches, family members and the local community have turned out in force to give the club a financial boost ahead of the new season.
We spoke to chairman Ged Redman, who has been associated with the club 35 years, about the challenges involved with running the club, future plans to install new drainage on the home ground, and the importance of today’s event.
