Raising smiles and charity cash in Hyde

Smiles flooded Ewen Fields as teams went head-to-head to raise money for families needing support through bereavement.

Hyde United Football club was home to Salford Saxons and the Once Upon a Smile Celeb XI as teams battled to create an exciting match and provide some much-needed joy to all who attended.

Since its origins in 2011, Once Upon a Smile has worked tirelessly to provide emotional and practical support to bereaved families after the death of a loved one.

This is something that organiser Paul Hughes believes strongly in, especially after suffering the loss of children in his own family, leading to the creation of their foundation the Riley and Radley Trophy.

With the aim to raise as much money as possible for the charities, teams made up of some familiar faces, including actors from Emmerdale, joined in for a fun game of football in the sun.

The match proved a huge success, with families gathering to share the magic of sport, while also bringing attention to a highly commendable cause.

The match finished 5-5 with the Celeb XI going on to win it 5-4 on penalties.

Once Upon a Smile and the Riley and Radley Trophy strive to continue their work to bring joy to those who need it most, with events like this making everything possible.
