It was another defeat at the weekend for Droylsden, albeit it was a fantastic game between two teams pushing for promotion.

The Bloods lost 4-3 to Sandbach United in an end-to-end match full of action.

This was Droylsden’s first game after announcing that star striker George West would be missing the remainder of the season. Despite the setback, they took the lead after 30 seconds, Ben Lowe chipping the keeper following a slip in Sandbach’s defence.

The hosts were able to turn the game on its head though, equalising through a penalty and then took the lead after a drilled cross from the right was sliced home by a Droylsden defender.

The Bloods were under pressure for periods of the first half but answered back just before halftime. Fuad Kasali's low cross was met by Rio Pemberton who provided a smart finish into the bottom corner.

Droylsden retook the lead early in the second half through AJ Warburton. The ball fell into his path after a save from the keeper and Warburton was able to squeeze it home from a tight angle.

Sandbach equalised once again with a brilliant long-range effort from Robbie Hatton for his second of the game. Then with ten minutes to go the hosts took the lead, Joshua Oultram was unmarked at the back post and headed home following a corner.

This result was another setback for Droylsden’s promotion hopes but they’ll be hoping to bounce back against Barnton on Tuesday at home before a tough test away to league leaders Brocton on Saturday.
