Match Report: Droylsden FC 1-0 Ashville AFC

Droylsden are through to the Semi-Final of the Macron Cup after beating Ashville 1-0 at the Butcher’s Arms Ground.

Ben Lowe’s strike was enough for the Bloods to progress.

After the previous tie was abandoned after 75 minutes due to the weather, this time around the pitch was of a much more suitable standard. Both sides kept the ball well, but chances were few and far between in the first half.

That was the case until the 41st minute when the deadlock was finally broken by Ben Lowe’s first-time effort curled into the top corner for his fifth goal of the campaign.

Both sides went close just after the break, with Fuad Kasali being stopped by Ashville goalkeeper William Ebbrell before Lewis Moynes’ effort glanced just wide of the post.

Again, Droylsden were good in possession but found it difficult to break down Villa’s defence. Nellson Van went close after the 78th minute and in the 88th minute, Caelan Kilheeney struck the post from a free kick.

Ashville’s best spell came in stoppage time when Jordan Hadlow was called into action, first tipping over a scissor kick from Connor Courtnell before making a brave punch from the following corner.

Just before full-time one of the floodlights went out, but not even that could cast a shadow on another glowing performance for the Bloods, who now face Chadderton in the Semi-Final.
