Right Said Fred: Can United pull off a miracle

Many pundits reckon the 143rd FA Cup final between Manchester's big two will be an embarrassing one-sided affair for us Reds.

But the same was said last year which ended with City beating United by just 2-1.

Admittedly last season under the same manager Eric Ten Hag we were so much better while City have again strengthened so the narrative  is the Reds are in for a spanking at Wembley on Saturday.

It is certainly true United are going backwards with Ten Hag under enormous pressure to hang on to his job even if he beats the odds  and wins the cup.

Betfred have the City Machine odds on  favourites to lift the Cup with United at 13/2 to win in 90 minutes. No surprise there but you know my team do turn up for the big games and pride is at stake. So many of the United team are playing for their futures at Old Trafford and they won't want to show their shortcomings in front of a worldwide audience.

The fact is at the moment on current form none of the United team would get a starting place in a joint Manchester team although long term Kobbie  Mainoo and Garnacho would be in with a decent shout. Marcus Rashford is a man on a mission after being snubbed by Gareth Southgate for the England Euro squad - and he's well worth a punt at 14/1 to score first.

I just hope United follow the route City did with Phil Foden with academy product Mainoo taking things nice and steady developing him to be a  world class midfielder now he's rightly made the Euros training squad.

The way a sizeable number of the Reds faithful responded staying behind to applaud their fading heroes following the horrendous 4-0 hammering at Crystal Palace earlier this month had me scratching my head.

But my theory is that the club's history around the Busby Babes, the Munich tragedy and then the all conquering Sir Alex Ferguson regime is seeing us through.

The fact is that loyalty is not to be taken for granted so we Reds want a passionate at the very least performance against arguably the best club side in the world marshalled by definitely the best manager on the planet in Pep Guardiola.

City's squad is that good that even the club's second eleven would hold its own in the Premier League - and possibly even achieve a top four finish which United dismally failed to do this season ending up eight.

So for the final Betfred have City to win both halves at 2/1 and wait for it United to do likewise well that is 33/1. I reckon there will be plenty of goals - and how about either team winning on penalties well that's 16/1 with us.

No prizes for guessing Erling Haaland is the favourite for the opener at 9/4. And if you think it will be the same scoreline as last year well that's 7/1  - and for you super confident Reds who like me believe in miracles we are 100/1 that United win 3-0.
