Local football fans raise almost £4K for Willow Wood Hospice

Eleven local lads have raised just under £4,000 for Willow Wood Hospice through a charity walk they took part in on March 23.

The walk saw the group travel from Old Trafford, the home of Manchester United, to the Project Solar Stadium, the home of Hyde United, as well as visiting other clubs on the way: Manchester City, Curzon Ashton, Ashton United, Droylsden, Stalybridge Celtic and FC United of Manchester.

The total distance of the walk was a staggering 20 miles.

The team consisted of organiser Chris Grimshaw, Lewis Johnston, Matt Riley, Carl Riley, Jimbo Stirling, Ross Schofield, Alex Charnley, Matt Harrop, Ryan Millington, Gary Sandiford and Tom Marsland.

The group set out on their quest to give back to a fantastic organisation that does so much for the community.

Chris Grimshaw, the organiser of the walk said: “We did the walk because we want to make a difference.

“We’re inspired by the work that Willow Wood do, so we wanted to raise money for them.

“The more people that know about Willow Wood, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing our page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot.”

As mentioned, the group have raised close to £4,000 since setting up their JustGiving page a couple of months ago and that figure is still rising.

Willow Wood is an adult hospice providing specialist palliative care for patients with life-limiting illnesses.
