Denton Captain Enjoys A Great Weekend

Denton Golf Club Captain Martin Unsworth enjoyed a very busy and enjoyable Captain’s Weekend with plenty of competitions in various categories being played.

Martin said: “I would like to thank everyone who took part over the weekend and congratulations to all of the prize winners.

“Also a heartfelt thanks to all who came on the Saturday evening to celebrate with me and make it such a special night.

“A huge thank you to all members for their donations to Mr Captain’s Charity Rubens Retreat which raised over £320 over the week.”

The winners of Mr Captain’s Prize with a 137 total for 36 holes was Amir Nazir ahead of Alan Painter 138 and Emerson Fedele 139.

The Captain’s qualifier winners were Dave Jones after a cpo on 69 from Ken Blundell and Reece Hobson and Nigel Doyle after a cpo on 68 with Shanny Gauar.

The non qualifying winners were Pete Hulme 67 and Robert Manion 69.

Simon Currier won the lowest gross, Pam Wiseley took the ladies prize with 70 from Trish Ferguson 76, Charles Smith was top Past Captain from Trevor Taylor, David Schofield top senior and Eva Morgan top junior from James Palmer.

The Wednesday Stableford at Denton was won by Nik Coburn 44 from Keith Bentham 42 and Casey Holland-Dean 40.

The Ladies Stableford at Denton was led in by Wendy Pollit 37 from Sue Thompson 36 and Pat Southall 35 and Norma Boott was the 9-hole winner with 21 from Laraine Gordon 18.

A pro’s Stableford at Saddleworth had John Wozniak top of division one after a cpo on 42 with Ben Pullen  and Graham Hobbs took division two after a cpo on 41 with Colin Crawford.

Te overall result for Saddleworth Ladies Preisdent’s competition  was Jo Jacombs 142 from Pam Tomlinson 146 and the day winners were Sandra Hague 71 and Barbara Shuttleworth 77 with Jean Barnes winning the 9-hole Stableford with 17.

Round one in the President’s competition at Saddleworth was led by Jon Givvons 64 from Martin Orme 66 and Neil Bamford 67.

The Tuesday Stableford at Ashton had the divisions led in by Glyn Andrew39, Michael McGuinness 42 and Chris McKown 41 with the yellow tee winner being Geoff Glover with a massive 46.

A Seniors BB Stableford at Ashton had the White Tee winners being S Gaynon and G Whitehead 43 with the Yellow Tee top pair being T Picken and A Clegg 47.

A 9-hole Stableford for Ashton ladies was won by Lesley Callow 20, one more than Jacqueline Schofield.

A Stableford for Brookdale ladies was won by Julie Evans with 40 from Janet Suggett 37 and Vicky Akin 36.

The 23rd Mens Summer competition at Brookdale saw FJ Oakland top division one with 39 from Graham Brown 37.

In division two it needed a cpo on 36 to take Michael Fitzgerald home from George Allen.

It also needed a cpo on 39 in the President’s Day pro’s comp at Brookdale ad George Allen won from Adrian Lever.

A midweek medal at Crompton and Royton was won by Ryan O’Leary 67 from Tom Pickering 70 and Matthew Barlow led in five players on 71.

The second of the President’s prize competitions for C and R ladies had Joyce Adams cruising home with 67, three less than Andrea Lowe.

The Lady Life Members Trophy at Dukinfield saw Sally Lester show her class with 68, two less than Julie Wilshaw, Cathy Peel and Dorothy Barton.

A medal for Duki’s  men had the divisions won by Mark Phillips 66, Frank Kinder 65 and Nathan Boon 68.

A singles Stableford at Fairfield had Daniel Heathcote top of division one with a great haul of 43, four more than Stephen Thomas and Gary Davies.

Mark Gorman won division one after a cpo on 41 with John Whitaker, one more then Mark Merriman, and Jordan Johnson.

A Medal for the Breast Cancer Brooch for Fairfield ladies had Sandra Qualters in firm control with 68 from Marilyn Woodcock 71 and Carole Phillips 73.

Stamford ladies were in Stableford action with Marjorie Harrop top of division one with 34 from Joanne O’Neill 30.

It was closer in division two with Nikki Pimlott posting 36, one more than Susan McGinnety.

The Tuesday Roll Up at Stamford was won by Robert Farley with 43 from Kevin Bird 41 and Roger Harrop 38.

A Mixed Open Stableford at Stamford needed a cpo ion 39 to take Daniel Thistleton into top spot from Olver Collins, one more than Steve Clough and Nicholas Rabbeth.
