What's the latest about McDonald's in Glossop?

McDonald's plan to open a new restaurant on Glossop Brook Road in Glossop.

An online group are continuing their campaign to stop McDonald's coming to Glossop.

The controversial proposals for a new drive-thru and restaurant to be built on the site of the former Wrens Nest pub are set to be determined next month.

The decision will be made by members of High Peak Borough Council’s Development Control Committee.

The application had been due to be determined at the October meeting but was put back a month after the September meeting postponed after the death of the Her Majesty the Queen.

If approved, McDonald's say the development will create up to 65 new local jobs and 'represents a significant investment into Glossop'.

But concerns have been raised about the impact such a development would have on traffic congestion.

The FB Oppose McDonald's group is also against the arrival of Burger King. As reported in the Chronicle, the fast-food giant is currently recruiting staff for the new outlet they are opening in the town.

The Oppose group said: “We will not support an invasion of Glossop by multi-national companies such as Burger King or McDonalds.

“It will tarnish the heritage of the town and place small businesses in the food and hospitality sector at risk.”

The decision on the McDonald's application is expected at the Development Control Committee meeting at the Pavilion Gardens in Buxton on Monday 7 November.
