A walker was airlifted to hospital after sustaining a lower leg injury at the top of Hern Clough in Bleaklow.

Glossop Mountain Rescue Team say they were deployed from Snake Summit along the Pennine Way to assist the woman at around 4.45pm on Saturday afternoon (1 July).

On arrival and following an initial assessment, she looked to have a fractured ankle and the decision was taken to call for an air ambulance.

It arrived within 20 minutes and the woman was taken to Sheffield Royal Hospital for further treatment.

The team stood down at 7.30pm.

GMRT - which receives no direct government funding - is continuing to appeal for donations to help ensure its volunteers can continue to turn out day and night to rescue people in wild and remote places.
