Walker became stuck in mud visiting reservoir

A visitor had to be rescued after being unable to move after sinking down to their thighs in thick mud during a trip to Ladybower Reservoir on Saturday (15 October).

With the water level still low, visitors have been exploring the exposed remains of the old Derwent Village.

Using a combination of spinal and mud boards, digging and manpower, volunteers from Edale Mountain Rescue Team were able to free them and bring them to firmer ground.

It was the second incident of the day after the team earlier been called to the same area to rescue a walker who fell injuring their leg while walking down the banks of the Reservoir.

They were carried by members of Edale MRT to the main track to meet an ambulance before being taken to hospital.

The team said the incidents were a timely reminder of the risks associated with walking down towards the currently extremely low reservoir water levels.
