Visitors receive a warm welcome at Glossopdale's coffee morning

Glossopdale School and Sixth Form opened their doors and welcomed the local community to their first Macmillan Coffee Morning last Friday.

Guests were welcomed by student leaders who had volunteered to host the event and a delicious selection of home-baked cakes, buns, cookies
and loaves were offered in aid of a fantastic cause.

The event had been in the planning for many weeks and local resident, Carole Hallam, who went along to support the event, said: “All the students were amazing - helping us find our way to The Place when we completely missed the sign because we were too busy talking, a warm welcome, making sure we had plenty of drinks and something to eat and a lovely friendly chatty atmosphere.”

Students also sat down and chatted to people who had gone alone, ensuring they felt included and valued.

Director of Personal Development at Glossopdale, Claire Dunkerley, said: “We’re really keen for our students - led by our student leaders to fundraise throughout the year for a range of charities they have chosen themselves.

“It’s a great way for young people to develop empathy for those less fortunate and in need of support. We have several more events planned this year and will again be inviting the whole community."

Despite only being a 90-minute event, funds raised were an impressive £262.53!
