A vision for developing the High Peak's potential and attracting more visitors has been unveiled by the borough council.
A new Tourism Strategy sets out key priorities and an action plan aimed to help the borough establish itself as a distinct area within the iconic brand of the Peak District.
The Strategy is based on four areas:
- Towns and villages – creating destination hubs with reasons to linger
- Active experiences – develop cycling and walking routes, trails and events
- Creators and makers – supporting events, courses, workshops and opportunities to buy
- Accommodation – extending the range and type
Councillor Damien Greenhalgh, Deputy Leader and Executive Councillor for Regeneration, Tourism and Leisure, said the area is well known for its wide range of cultural and natural assets, visitor attractions and leisure opportunities.
He said: “Our Council wants to build on these strong foundations to raise the profile of our fantastic Borough still further by taking advantage of its position within the Peak District to enhance the High Peak’s reputation as a coherent, connected destination and spread the benefit as widely across our towns and villages as possible."
