The Powsers take on Mass Trespass route for Mummy's Star

Glossop-based Powsers Mountaineering Club had a great turn-out for their annual charity walk last weekend, which was in support of local charity Mummy’s Star.

The charity's CEO and founder, Pete Wallroth, met up with the 21 walkers at Bowden Bridge, in Hayfield, to see them off at the start of their challenging 23km route up and over Kinder Scout.

The route was planned to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Kinder Mass Trespass of 1932 and took in the three Kinder trig points.

After a cold and rainy start, the cloud base lifted to give a dry, blustery day with excellent long-range views and ideal walking conditions. Everyone completed the walk successfully and enjoyed a great day out on the hills.

Powsers’ President John Hughes said: "The Powsers have been doing charity walks for worthy causes for almost 40 years. This year’s event has been another brilliant team effort to raise cash and public awareness for Mummy’s Star, a tremendous local charity.

“A huge thanks to Pete Wallroth from Mummy’s Star and all those who took part, sponsored us and assisted with the event. Our club is out on the hills every Sunday and we have lots of trips to mountain areas farther afield. We welcome new members; to find out more about our activities check out “The Powsers” on Facebook or email us at thepowsers@gmail.com."

Pete Wallroth, CEO and founder of Mummy’s Star, commented: "We are incredibly grateful to the POWSERS for choosing to support Mummy’s Star with their annual challenge in 2022. The Mass Trespass route is a tough one even in the best of weather so they certainly took on hard day as they begin in the rain and clag on Saturday morning.

“As a small charity with a wide reach, support and fundraising like this is absolutely invaluable and helps us provide help to so many more families receiving a diagnosis of cancer in or around a pregnancy or loss.”
