The countdown is on to submit your photograph to the Dark Peak Photo festival

The deadline for Dark Peak Photo festival’s open call for submissions on the theme of Now & Then is Saturday 20th January.

The open call is your chance to be part of Dark Peak Photo, a brand new photography festival with a programme of free exhibitions and inspiring talks and workshops which will be staged across the market town of Glossop, on the edge of the Peak District from 22nd to 25th February 2024.

Photographers of all levels are invited to submit a photo, responding to the theme of Now & Then. The festival team are seeking images that reflect on the passage of time, the nature of memory and the lessons to be learned from history.

The open call is free for anyone to enter, anywhere in the world, using any camera or camera phone. Photographers are welcome to create new work or revisit past projects.

Images selected will be displayed (with the consent of the artist) in the windows of participating premises across Glossop town centre during the festival at the end of February and in an online gallery on the festival website.

Photographers chosen for the open call exhibition will be asked to pay a participation fee of £17.50 which will go towards festival expenses, and to cover printing for the pictures. Following the festival, the professionally printed image will be yours to keep, or sell.

One winning image will be voted by a panel of experts taking part in festival talks and workshops and will win a Holga 120 film camera, film and processing kindly donated by Analogue Wonderland.

Photographer Toni Slater’s image ‘Werneth Low at Golden Hour’ is one of the first photographs to be selected. In answer to why she entered the open call she says: ‘I’ve never entered anything like this before but the open call was promoted on a group called ‘She Clicks’ which is an international group supporting women photographers of all skill levels so I thought, why not?
My photo is one of the most iconic shots of the area and as I was driving I was blown away by the light and view so I had to stop and take a picture. It is one of my favourite places to drive and the light and the views of the landscape are stunning. Having this festival locally is amazing, accessible and will hopefully be very positive for the town and surrounding areas for photographers to share their work to the wider public and fellow artists.’

Vikki Rutter, Assistant Curator and Open Call Lead says: ‘I became involved in the festival in late November. Having had a lot of experience with open calls I was able to provide insight into how to set about making this happen, it’s so important to involve everyone and this is where an open call is great. It’s accessible to everyone and brings new work to the attention of the curators for possible collaborations in the future. It also creates an incredible sense of pride in the photographer to see their work printed on display.’

You can submit your entry by Saturday 20 January via the open call link on the Park Peak website here: OPEN CALL — DARK PEAK PHOTO
