Volunteers were busy monitoring the speed of drivers on Manchester Road in Tintwistle on Sunday afternoon (7 May).

The Hadfield Community Speed Watch team were on a busy section of the A628, where the speed limit is 30 miles per hour, from 2.55pm to 3.55pm.

A total of 1,222 vehicles went by in that time, with 21 recorded driving in excess of the speed limit.

Glossop Police Safer Neighbourhood Team said the registered keepers of the vehicles will receive a letter of advice about their speeding.

They also said a massive thank you to the two volunteers from the speed watch team for carrying out the event.

"We encourage safer behaviour to reduce the number of deaths and injuries on our roads," a spokesperson added.

"Speed Watch is a community-based, education-centred scheme that helps ordinary people make a significant contribution to improving the safety of our roads.

"Please, if you’re driving in our area, respect the speed limit, slow down and stay safe."
