NCT looking for new families to join Glossop and Hadfield groups

The friendly and welcoming groups are an opportunity for families to have fun and meet new people.

The Glossop and District Branch of the National Childbirth Trust (NCT) is looking for new families to join its groups based in Glossop and Hadfield.

There is a sensory stimulation group on Monday afternoons from 1pm to 2.30pm at Hadfield Hall, at the junction of Station Road and Railway Street, which is suitable for newborn to pre-walkers.

Then on Thursday mornings, there is a bumps and babies group at Central Methodist Church on Chapel Street in Glossop from 10.30am to midday. This is suitable for all ages as older children are welcome to come when they are off school. The Cosy Library, which is an independent Usborne book shop, also visit on the first Thursday of every month when books are available to buy.

The groups, which are ran by dedicated volunteers, cost £2 to attend per session - which includes a snack.

A spokesperson for NCT said: "We create a safe and welcoming place for all families where they can share their parenting journeys and meet new people.

"We continue to build a community and create friendships between both adults and children every week in our sessions. We run 50 weeks a year and have a community Facebook page as well as a Messenger group.

"Our aim is for the group to be inclusive and accessible to all families. We only ask for a small entry fee each week per family and don't have a limit on the age of children who are attending so, when schools are off, families can still attend.

"Refreshments are offered - a healthy and substantial snack such as fruit, biscuits, toast and tea or coffee.

"Our groups will continue to provide a safe, welcoming and inclusive space for families. We only charge a small fee of £2 per family (which includes paying for the snacks) so we can make it as accessible as possible for all families during the cost of living crisis.

"Our group brings people together and offers parents a chance to chat about their worries and concerns, as well as sharing positive news and seeing their children interact with other children."

Volunteers at the NCT group in Glossop

The NCT has received lots of positive feedback from families who have attended the groups.

A current parent commented: "The NCT group help myself and my kids to socialise with other kids and mums alike."

Another said: "I have always been made to feel so welcome by the volunteers. I go to a lot of baby and toddler groups but this one is my favourite. It hasn't just been helpful for my children but for me as a mum too. They have supported me through a lot."

Another parent added: "I've been going to this group for over a year now. It's such a positive and friendly group, they offer so many different activities and songs."

The NCT groups' sessions take place every Monday in Hadfield and every Thursday in Glossop
