NatWest branch in Glossop to permanently close

CLOSING: NatWest on Norfolk Square, off High Street West in Glossop.

The NatWest branch in Glossop will be permanently closing next year, it has emerged.

NatWest has written to its customers to inform them that the Glossop branch on Norfolk Square, off High Street West, will close its doors for the final time on 2 March 2023.

It would leave the nearest branches in Hyde and Stalybridge.

A spokesperson for NatWest said the 'difficult' decision has 'not been taken lightly'.

They added: "We understand that this branch closure may be challenging for many and we're working hard to help prepare our customers, and our colleagues, for the closure."

The decision has been branded 'disgraceful' by local residents on social media.

One said: "Disgraceful for the elderly and business owners. It's always packed."

Another said: "Disgraceful. So as a disabled NatWest customer, I now have to go over to Hyde!"

The decision means the only bank still open in the Glossopdale area will be Lloyds on High Street East.

Information for customers

All banking details including sort code, account number, standing orders and Direct Debits will remain the same and debit cards, paying-in books and cheque books can continue to be used.

The branch address on customer statements and any cheque books will change. If customers need to write to the bank, the new address will be NatWest Hyde, Market Place, Hyde, Cheshire, SK14 2LX.

A Safe Custody service will no longer be offered and the bank will contact those affected to make alternative arrangements.

At local Post Office branches in Glossop, Gamesley, Simmondley, Charlesworth and Hadfield, NatWest customers will be able to take out cash, check their balance or make a deposit.

Any customers with questions about the closure can call 0131 380 6528.
