Motorists caught speeding on main Tintwistle road

Two volunteers carrying out speed checks on Manchester Road in Tintwistle.

Seventeen motorists were caught driving over the speed limit on a main road in Tintwistle by 'speed watch' volunteers.

The Hadfield Community Speed Watch team placed themselves on the A628 Manchester Road from 2.55pm to 3.55pm on Saturday afternoon (18 March).

During the hour, a total of 1,094 vehicles used the road and 17 motorists were recorded exceeding the 30 miles per hour speed limit. The highest recorded speed during the check was 49mph.

A Glossop Police Safer Neighbourhood Team spokesperson said: "Well done and thank you to our two volunteers who completed the event.

"If you are concerned about speeding in your community, please consider signing up as a Community Speed Watch volunteer by contacting your local SNT.

"Results from recent completed Derbyshire Talking by people showed that speeding and hazardous driving was a concern in communities.

"If you want to have your say and complete a Derbyshire Talking survey, then this can be done via the following link: www.Derbyshirealert.co.uk/Derbyshiretalking."
