High Peak Singers, which formed just eight weeks ago, have taken part in their debut performance, which has raised funds for a good local cause.
The audience gave them a standing ovation at their concert ‘Summer Serenade’ at The Royal Hayfield.
They also donated £271.51 to the New Mills and District Volunteer Centre, after hearing an emotive speech from one of their volunteers Janice.
The choir performed a range of songs from Bob Dylan’s ‘Make You Feel My Love’, a Bulgarian folk song, a sea shanty and a Latin round. There were also four solo items; two original songs as well as Amy Winehouse’s ‘Love is a Losing Game’.
Choir founder Hannah Brine said: "I was so proud of the choir. The singers have really committed to the challenge of learning the songs, and they created such a wonderful sound, and a really joyous atmosphere."
Hannah is leading a Come and Sing day as part of the New Mills festival on Saturday 24 September, at the Spring Bank Arts centre, with Hallé conductor Stuart Overington.
