Help in High Peak to reduce winter energy costs

Help to reduce energy costs is being provided by High Peak charity Zink this winter.

Their energy advisor is able to carry out assessments and give advice on simple measures that people can take in their homes. Funded by National Grid the scheme is open to all households.

Zink, which runs High Peak Foodbank and Buxton Community Eco-Café, is seeing a rise in demand.

Paul Bohan, CEO, said: “We’re seeing more families using the foodbank because of higher household bills.

“They’re having to choose between heating and eating. Our trained energy adviser can help families reduce fuel costs; by doing that, they don’t need to use the foodbank.”

Zink HQ, on Market Street Car Park, Clough Street in Buxton is a warm space open Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm with the community eco-café serving food 10-2 Tuesday – Friday. A two-course meal is £5, foodbank users eat for free.

“We encourage everyone to sample the food at Zink’s eco-café,” said Paul, “not only will you be reducing food waste, but you will be helping to support struggling families in our community.

“Having energy advice in a council designated warm space makes perfect sense and hopefully, we can help some families keep their bills down this winter,” Paul concluded.
