Hayfield's annual summer show celebrations

Folk flocked to this year’s Hayfield Summer Show.

For many years prior to the pandemic, the annual Hayfield Summer Show, sponsored and organised jointly byHayfield Allotment Society and Hayfield Parish Council, had been a popular feature of Hayfield village life.

Now, after a three year gap, it was back on again in Hayfield Village Hall, and it didn’t disappoint. Entry was free and was open to all who live in the Hayfield parish and the surrounding area. After the entries had been received and put on display in the morning, the judges did their bit and the show was then open to the public in the afternoon.

Locals and visitors dropped by to admire long runner beans, big onions and fine bread and cakes. This year, there were 120 entries in the six classes.

The winners this year were:

Fruit and vegetables - Gill and Dave Eustace.
Flowers - Anne Fox
Home produce - Derek Ivens
Cakes - Gill Scott and Phil Wheatcroft
Children’s entries - William Kealey
Crafts - Gill and Dave Eustace.

The overall winners were Gill and Dave Eustace.

There was a raffle for boxes of fruit and veg, much of which is grown by Hayfield allotment tenants, of whom there are over 40. This year it raised
£67 and the lucky winners were Marie from Hayfield and Emma from Stockport.

The Allotment Society and Parish Council are looking forward to an even bigger and better Hayfield Summer Show next year.
