Governor and former teacher steps down after almost 50 years

Jackie Riley

After 49 years of service to the families of Gamesley as a teacher and governor, Jackie Riley has finally decided to step down from her duties.

Mrs Riley was one of the first teachers employed at Gamesley Early Excellence Centre when it first opened back in 1973.

She worked as a teacher for 28 years before retiring, but continued to work as a governor until now.

During her time with the Nursery on Winster Mews, Jackie has seen many changes, but her passion for early years education has never wavered and she has continued to keep abreast of developments.

To mark Mrs Riley's commitment to the Nursery School, a celebration event was held, where a number of colleagues who she had worked with over the years came together.

Previous head teacher, Lynn Kennington, spoke about Jackie's working life and the changes she had seen over the decades. Mrs Riley was presented with gifts and an apple tree with a plaque that will be planted in the allotment at the Nursery School.

As Mrs Riley steps down, there is a need for the position to be filled as a governor at the Nursery.

Anyone in the local community interested in making a difference to young children's lives and helping the Nursery would be very welcome to get in touch by calling 01457 860456. Governors have a range of backgrounds such as finance, legal, HR or a parent and - above all else - an enthusiasm to have a positive impact on children and families.
