Glossopdale Furniture Project step out to raise funds and awareness

Glossopdale Furniture Project is organising a sponsored walk 'Making Ends Meet' to raise awareness of its charity work across the whole of the High Peak area.

GFP provides basic furniture packs and household essentials to people who have been allocated a new home but have no means of furnishing it.

Last year the charity provided more than 150 such packs to households in need across the High Peak area. The charity has been supporting families since 1997.

The purpose of the walk is to highlight its work across the High Peak as well as raising much needed funds.

The charity rely on donations of unwanted furniture and household items to maintain the stock, which is reclaimed, restored, refurbished and up-cycled for sale.

By supporting GFP, you’re not only helping those in need but also benefiting the local environment by diverting over 100 tonnes of good usable furniture from landfill annually.

Staff, trustees, volunteers and friends of GFP will be walking a section of High Peak starting at either end of the Borough at Tintwistle and Tideswell on Friday, June 23, and meeting up in the middle at Whaley Bridge on Sunday, June 25.

The Mayor and Mayoress of High Peak will formally start the walk by cutting a ribbon outside  the charity’s shop on George Street around at 12.30pm on 23 June.

Charity Chair, Stella Quinn and the acting manager of the Project, Leigh Higginbottom, will also attend as well as Helen Thornhill, the Project Lead for ‘Move More’ Glossop who has provided help and advice on putting together the walk.

If you would like to support the walk you can find a Just Giving page at https://justgiving.com/campaign/making-ends-meet
