Glossop shoppers 'dismayed' by Shell profits

Dozens of Saturday shoppers in Glossop expressed their shock at the enormous profits announced by Shell last week, at a time when many people are living in cold homes as they can't cope with rising energy bills.

Campaigners say many also expressed their dismay at the recent news coverage of people having their homes broken into to fit prepayment meters following an investigation by The Times newspaper.

The government has now intervened to stop this practice, but members of High Peak Green New Deal and Greenpeace came together to collect signatures on a petition calling for all the unwanted meters to now be taken out.

Campaigners are also calling for more help for people struggling with their bills; a home insulation programme; more investment in renewable energy and no new oil and gas.
