Glossop Heritage Trust will be unveiling their next Blue Plaque to honour a cricketer on Saturday (8 October)
The Blue Plaque commemorates Charles Augustus Ollivierre, who played cricket for Glossop from 1900 to 1903 and subsequently for Derbyshire County Cricket Club.
He lived on Talbot Street and was employed by Sir Sam Hill-Wood. Ollivierre was the first black West Indian to play County Cricket in England and helped to break down major barriers of racial prejudice in his lifetime
The event being held in association with Glossop Cricket & Bowling Club will take place on Saturday 8th October, 2pm at the Cricket Club on North Road.
The unveiling will be performed by the Mayor of the High Peak Councillor Ollie Cross and an address comprising a brief resume of Ollivierre’ s history will be provided by Tim Knebel of “Peak in the Past” who has researched Ollivierre.

There will also be an exhibition about cricket in Glossop and Ollivierre and some of his teammates. Glossop Heritage Trust will be running its sales table including their 2023 calendar.
The event is free and all are welcome.
