Dog rescued from Kinder Downfall

Volunteers from Kinder Mountain Rescue Team braved some awful weather conditions on Thursday night (27 April) to help a dog walker rescue her pet.

The seven-hour operation began after the dog walker had already spent three hours herself trying to retrieve her dog, which had become stuck on a ledge at Kinder Downfall.

A spokesperson for the team, who were called out at 7.45pm, said: “The weather was poor, and the lady was extremely cold – she may not have survived the night without our intervention.

“After careful assessment of the situation, we decided to implement a full rope rescue to retrieve the dog. This involved carrying significant equipment to the Downfall and rigging it (helicopters were unavailable due to the low cloud base).

“Happily, we were able to retrieve the dog. The lady, the rescued dog and another three dogs, were all walked down to the safety of our base.”

The rescue operation ended at around 3am on Friday morning (28 April).
