Derbyshire County Council to hold first producers market

Derbyshire County Council HQ in Matlock.

High Peak's farmers and producers are among those being offered the chance to showcase and sell their produce at a new market.

Derbyshire County Council is to hold their first Producers' Market at County Hall in Matlock on Wednesday 24 May between 10am-2pm.

It is seen as an opportunity for Derbyshire businesses producing high quality local goods to sell their wares for free, meet potential new customers from across the county and promote their products.

Council Leader Councillor Barry Lewis came up with the idea and all 64 councillors are being asked to encourage their local farmers, producers and artisans who are running businesses to take part.

He said: “The event will be the ideal opportunity for producers to showcase their products for free to a countywide audience, including our councillors, staff, and local residents, sell their products and attract some new customers.

“We think it’s a fantastic way to show off what our amazing Derbyshire producers and farmers are capable of, and hope people will get behind this first event and give these businesses a boost.”

Councillor Lewis added: “There’s so many benefits to us all from having a thriving local food and drink economy, including cutting down on our carbon footprint of course. I’m very much looking forward to welcoming everyone and opening the event.”

Produce ranging from meat, fruit and vegetables, bread, eggs and milk to honey, jams, cakes, and chutneys, are likely to be on offer, as well as juices, beer, cider, and wine. There should also be products suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

Producers wanting to secure a table are asked to RSVP by Wednesday 10 May which they can do by emailing cllr.administration@derbyshire.gov.uk

People should also email any queries about the event to the same email address.
