Council Tax Reduction Scheme changes proposed in High Peak

Plans to provide additional support to households with the lowest incomes are amongst the changes being proposed to the Council Tax Reduction Scheme.

Now High Peak Borough Council wants to hear what people think of the proposed changes to the scheme that is for working age applicants.

Executive Councillor for Corporate Services and Finance, Alan Barrow, said: “We want to make this scheme easier for residents to both understand and access – and to offer additional support to those households on the lowest incomes.

“We’re all having to manage our budgets to deal with the rising living costs so I’m sure many people will welcome this review and I would encourage people to go online and complete the consultation document to let us know their views.

“Paper copies are also available so you can still tell us what you think if you can’t complete the document on the website.”

The consultation can be completed at www.highpeak.gov.uk/benefits

Paper copies are available at Buxton Town Hall, the Gamesley Office on Winster Mews and from the CABs in Buxton and Glossop. Residents can also request a copy by calling 0345 129 7777.

Completed paper questionnaires need to be returned to High Peak Borough Council, PO Box 136, Buxton, SK17 1AQ. The deadline for both online and paper responses is 28 November.

The Council Tax Reduction Scheme for people of pension age is not affected by these proposals.
