Derbyshire County Council has launched a campaign to encourage local people to become school governors.
With over 400 schools and academies, from nurseries to sixth form colleges, school governors form one of the largest volunteer groups in Derbyshire.
An individual governor has a responsibility to work with the governing board, staff, pupils, and the wider community to make a difference to their school.
There are a range of roles including parent, associated and co-opted governors to suit different experience and skills.
The county council is particularly looking to recruit individuals with professional business experience to offer support to schools across the county.
Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Councillor Alex Dale, said: “Schools are at the heart of our communities and governors play a vital role in ensuring children in Derbyshire have the best start in life.
“We’re looking for people with the skills and commitment to support us to improve education across the county. There are a range of different roles from parent governors to specialist roles and I would encourage anyone looking to make a difference in Derbyshire to apply.”
