'Cost of Living' film launched in Whitfield

Almost forty people went along to Pure Vibes in Whitfield on Friday to watch the UK launch of the Greenpeace film 'The Cost of Living'.

The film tells the powerful story of a community in a small Yorkshire town who are coming together to fight back against the cuts to their living standard and to support those in greatest need.

Heather Kennedy of New Economics Foundation features in the film and she spoke at the meeting about the urgent need for a Great Homes Upgrade to provide warm homes and lower bills.

The meeting also heard a speaker from Greenpeace and from local resident John Walmsley from the Warm Homes Whitfield Campaign.

There was moving testimony from many members of the audience, most of them Whitfield residents about the difficulties they are facing.

The Warm Homes Whitfield group, which emerged after campaigning in the area by High Peak Green New Deal, is expanding and welcomes new members.

Their next meeting is at Pure Vibes this Saturday (26) from 1pm till 2.30pm, when they will be making plans for a day of action on December 3.
