Following the success of New Mills Fashion Week, clothing activists - fashionActivistas – are now running events throughout the year.

The first event for 2023 is on Saturday 15 April, when a clothes swap will be combined with one of the group’s very popular workshops to help people upcycle, alter and re-use fast-fashion garments or even decorate them with messages.

It is being held at Millers Refillers, 34 Market Street, New Mills, with the swap shop from 10.30am and the workshop starting at 1.30pm.

The workshop will be led by experts on sewing and embroidery, no experience is necessary, and materials will be available as well as the swap-shop garments.

Bring along garments, in good condition, and use the swap shop to exchange them for something new to you. Entrance for both the swap shop and the workshop is free of charge.

New Mills Fashion Week was started by women who love their clothes but are deeply concerned about the impact of the fashion industry.

They have already held a series of fun events, serious talks and discussions and work alongside Transition New Mills and network with other groups who are dedicated to exploring and promoting solutions.

The fashionActivistas can be found at New Mills Fashion Week on Facebook or by emailing newmillsfashionweek@gmail.com
